Ben Sheets

It's no secret that Doug Melvin and the Brewers love their draft picks. And that's great, a lot of them have been used to create a deep, pretty talented organization. But I think it's ridiculous to let Ben Sheets go with the compensation looking like it will be nothing better than a secound round pick, possible a 4th rounder if the Yankees step back in and sign him to be their 5th starter... Sheets is becoming a bargain on the free agent market. The Brewers could step in and sign him either to a one year deal or a very affordable 2 year deal in the 16-18 range. Remeber 2 years ago they had to pony up 48 million to sign Jeff Suppan. I mean are you kidding me. Take advantage of it. Get Ben Sheets back. If they need to free up some salary to make it happen, revisit the Cameron trade talks. Take a bit less back from the Yankees, maybe just Cabrera, or even a mid level prospect or two. I think the Brewers would be far better with Sheets and no Cameron then with Cameron and no Sheets. Even if they had to pay some of Cameron's salary, I think it would be worth it. I would rather them have Sheets for 8 and pay 4 of Cameron's deal for a total of 12, then to not have sheets and 10 million wrapped up in Cameron. Just my idea, who knows if the Yankees would even do it with the pleothora of outfielders they have. But to me, they still don't seem to be settled in centerfield.

MJ, I'm more of a fan of waiting until the trade deadline. Save that money and put aside until the this summer when you can make another block buster trade like CC. Not only does it provide a shot in the arm, but it also brings popularity to the club. If they spend it now, they will be up over the 90mm mark. They are already over their payroll budget.

As for Cameron, you can't trade him now. The guy is a force in the outfield on D. With the likes of Jeff Suppan and Seth McClung anchoring your rotation, lord knows the Brewers need god outfielders. Despite his two screw ups in the NLDS in Philly.

Also, I relize that I am echoing what Tom Haudricourt has been saying, but he has a good point with these ideas (above).

See I totally disagree with the logic of not improving your team now so you can improve with a CC like trade... First off, there will be no more CC like trades. Do you know how rare it is for a guy to come in and make THAT kind of an impact.

The other point to make is that if they don't improve, then there will be no need for a trade because they won't be in position to make a run. It's very ignorant to assume that you will just improve at the trade deadline.

Your argument that the likes of Suppan and McClung anchoring your rotation yields a need for a good centerfielder is ridiculous... just got better pitching and that problem takes care of itself

So you're telling me that by signing Wolf, Perez, or any other over-hyped free agent (class of 2008-2009) will assure Melvin that defense isn't top priority? You're wrong old friend. The ball is going to be put in play ALOT this year...so the obvious solution is to have top fielders. Cameron is a top fielder.

If we were to bring on Oliver Perez, who is the best fit out of all of them (southpaw I believe)...He too is a hittable hurler who will surely give up a high number of hits this season. You expect Hart to play center this season? He could barely handle right...and I mean BARELY.

I may just have to toilet paper your house tonight.

Check out that link...now that's a scary thought. If he is a turd, like his "wife" claims...I hope the club can straighten him out so that he's ready for the big time this season.

No, I want them to bring in Ben Sheets. Not any of those over hyped guys.

I saw that article... hopefully it's just a bitter girlfriend or wife spouting off.
